Sleeping

Hello dear friends,
My mother is comfortably sleeping right now, as she has been for the past few days. Each day, she is a little more tired, and a little weaker. Her blog post yesterday will likely be one of the last she makes, but I will continue to give you updates as I know many of you are interested in how she is doing. I want to thank you all for your love and support in the form of visits, phone calls, texts, blog comments, and warm thoughts and prayers. They truly mean the world to my mother, my brothers, and me. We are blessed to have such loving friends and family.

Sarah,
Thank you for your post. From Regina's post yesterday, I didn't realize that things were as bad as you say today. Our prayers and love are with you all. Even though I haven't been able to meet Regina in person (we met on line through the Dorothy Dunnett books), she has been a joy and a delight and an inspiration to me.
Much love,
Olive

Dear Sarah, We are all deeply sorry to learn of your mother's continued decline. She has faced this most difficult journey with courage and great strength. Reading her blog has been inspirational, but so very sad, knowing that each additional problem she encountered adds to a burden of pain and suffering that can barely be borne. We are here with our prayers for you all.

Be brave, if you can. Soon, she will have peace and the end of her suffering.

Our thoughts are with you.

Sarah:

Thanks for your note. I've never met your mom, but we've become online friends through Nancy Nall's blog (nancynall.com), where we are both "regulars" and through many games of Words with Friends.

Even so, we've felt a real sense of connection to each other, and I am heartbroken that her life is being cut so short.

She is lucky to have you. Please know that my thoughts have been much with you in recent days and will be in the days ahead.

Sarah: thank you for taking the time to update us. I'm both happy to hear Regina has good pain relief and incredibly sad that this time has come.

She, and you and your brothers, continue to be in my prayers.

Thank you, Dr. Sarah.

Your Mom's readership appreciates the update, and the news that she is resting comfortably.

You do realize that your mother is, with good reason, insanely proud of you?

Sarah,

Thank you for the update. I'm one of your mom's Words with Friends, friends. I got to know her about 4years ago as we paddled on our kick boards at the adult swim team practices at VRSTC. I admire and enjoy her so much. Please send her my love, thoughts and prayers. I live nearby - if there is anything you all need, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Hi Sarah - thanks for the update. It's good to know that the pain relief is working OK. I only met Regina the one - when she hosted a dinner for Dunnett Readers when we visited Seattle - but it was an absolute pleasure.

Sarah,

I hope you, and Regina, don't mind - I posted a quick blurb on GRACE, as Regina is known to many there. I've never met her, but have always respected her strength, wit, and the various and sundry bits she's shared here and at GRACE.

I am shattered by this news. I am so glad she has you and your brothers to ease her pain and wrap her in love. I hope she can enjoy some music and psychedelia with some of the pain cocktails. You're all in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for letting us know how your mom is doing. As another poster has said, we know there's a lot on your family's plate right now, and letting us--many who only know her through her blog and Nancy Nall's--is very kind of you. We wish all of you strength for the next tough journey. Your mom has our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Sarah, This must be so very hard for you and your brothers. That you would take time out to keep strangers posted indicates how much of your mother's daughter you are. Godspeed to Regina, who has handled what life has thrown her with great grace. Kisses to you all, Bonnie

Again, my thoughts are with you. I'm going to miss your mom.

Thank you for posting, Sarah. I've never met Regina, but her great spirit has come through on her blog, which I gravitated to after reading her comments on Nancy Nall's blog. I thought to myself that she would be an fabulous friend to have. I'm so sorry about the hand she has been dealt, which she has handled with inspiring frankness and grace. My prayers and warm thoughts to you both.

Hi Sarah,
I went to college with your Mom--we were frends my freshman, her senior year. That was a long time ago, but it seems like yesterday. I reconnected with her right before the last Mac reunion; I didn't spend as much time with her at that event as I would have liked--we were all so busy. Then she got the diagnosis and I have been following her blog ever since. You mom is an amazing woman. She was at 21 and she still is now. Thanks for posting your comment--I think about your mom every day. She is filled with courage and grace and is an inspiration to us all.

Dear Sarah and family

Thinking of Regina and so sad to hear how weak she is, but glad that the pain relief is working.

I never met her in person, but she has been a vivid, inspirational and important person on the Dunnett forums. I've also found the memories she has recounted and family stories she has preserved through her blog amazing.

Please send her my warmest thoughts. She really will be deeply missed.

Sarah,
Thank you so much for the update. I have been in awe of Regina's courage throughout her illness and her willingness to share this painful road with us. She is an amazing woman.

I moved to Edmonds from Boston in the fall of 2009, but knew Regina through the online Dorothy Dunnett community. She right away welcomed me, in spite of just having started her cancer treatment. We spent a long evening discussing books, politics, family, illness, etc. at Third Place Books.

I can be a driver anywhere, should you still need some. I can make myself available anytime, except May 1st thru 15th, when I have to travel in Europe. You can contact me at kmadeleineatgmail.com

Oh Sarah, I am sending a lot of love to your family, including the doggies that I have so enjoyed taking care of while your mother was off on adventures, living life the past few years. I hope they provide you all with some comfort and companionship as you go down this road.

Dear Sarah and family,

I am so sad to hear about Regina. I met her once, in Paris, where she was visiting with her children, so it is bittersweet to see the picture of the Eiffel Tower which I assume was taken during this visit. I fondly remember a lovely chat with her one afternoon. It was wonderful to meet her after having conversed with her on many a Dunnett list for so long. I will miss her very much.

My thoughts are with you all.

Dear Sarah--I'm sorry Regina was too sleepy for a visit yesterday. I will check again when I am next in Seattle. We love your mom--she is such a smart and dedicated attorney (a real hard ass too), and a strong and supportive friend. If you need anything please let Diane or Lisa know--we will be there for both of you.

Thanks for the information, Sarah. I haven't seen your mother since Macalester days but I have followed her blog with great admiration for her courage and candor as she confronted the challenges of her illness. Her willingness to share her long, painful journey has been an inspiration to so many.
I wish her peace and an end to pain. I applaud her courage and great spirit. I am honored to have known her, both many years ago and now though her amazing, insightful blog.

Thank you, Regina, for sharing so much with us.

Sarah and your brothers,

Your mom was a special person. I know this even though I've never met her in person, only on-line at Nancy Nall's blog. Her wisdom, wit and sparkle came shining through in her insightful comments. We will miss her greatly and hope she has peace and comfort through this. And I hope you, her family know how much we appreciate your sharing with us.

Thank you, Sarah, for keeping us informed on your mother's condition. As have other posters here, I 'met' your mother through the Dunnett lists and enjoy her quick wit and thoughtful posts. We are on the same side of the political fence and she always enjoys sticking her chin out which has led to some lively discussions! Give her my best, please.

Sarah,
I met your Mom at a delightful lunch at her house in October. We came together with other Dunnett fans to celebrate. She regaled us with stories of her history, her travels and her most recent Dead concert. I connected right away as I too went to many Dead concerts in my past... She impressed me as bright, kind, aware and wry--a rare and precious combination. With love to her, to you, to all her family and friends. May the four winds blow her safely home.

Sarah, thank you so much for thinking of us when we would all understand your focus on your mom. I'm another of the lady lawyers, and like so many others here, I have followed your mom's postings about her gallant fight with awe. She has been so brave, so honest. I lost my mom last year after a long illness, and I was sitting here trying to think what I could say to give you, Seth and Matthew comfort. While there is nothing I can say to make anything better, or easier, now, in the days and weeks and months to come, please know that you are the light and joy in your mother's life. She is so very proud of you, and she loves you with all her heart. And Sarah, what you have given to your mom with your constant presence and support, and your knowledge and help getting through the medical labryinth, is beyond description. You will have no regrets; you've been a truly wonderful daughter.

Sarah, thanks so much for keeping those of us in Regina's online world up to date. Tears now, good memories and laughter later. Your mom was an indispensable part of our lawyers' forums on Delphi and, as a result, of our lives outside the online universe. Her incredible courage, spirit, and good humor will be very much missed but well remembered.
